Sunrain, a wholly owned division of MacKay & Hughes, has joint ventures with growers on over 4000 acres of potatoes across North America. These growers and their locations were selected for their terrific soil and weather conditions, as well as their outstanding growing practices, and their ability to meet our strict product specifications. Most importantly, these joint ventures help streamline communication throughout the value chain, from the consumer back to the grower. Since Mackay and Hughes is involved in every aspect of production, it greatly enhances our ability to respond to the needs of our customers.
Success can be very elusive and frustrating.
Sunrain has been quite successful. To date we have several amazing
varieties, and we have several more that are midway along the development
cycle. Some of these successes have different tastes, some have different
colours, some are particularly good for frying, while others are very
good baked.
The following varieties are examples of these successes:
Klondike Rose™
The red skinned potato with a heart of Gold™. Great for roasting, boiling, mashing, salads, soups and stews. |
Klondike Goldust™

Red Yukon™

Pure Gold™

The process of creating the perfect potato involves much more than the desire to be innovative, it requires commitment, persistence, patience and the willingness to invest in a dream.
