Nurture Your Couch Potato on National Relaxation Day

When was the last time you took a day to yourself and just relaxed? Not a moment or a few hours, but a full day to unwind, take your mind off the world, and put life on pause? If it’s been a while, take the chance to relax on August 15 – National Relaxation Day – and nurture your inner couch potato. On this day, we encourage you to slow down and take a day to care for yourself by simply relaxing.

Being a couch potato isn’t a difficult task, which is why it’s a perfect way to observe National Relaxation Day. The day was founded in 1985 by Sean Moeller who, in an interview with Valerie Monson in the Des Moines Register, suggested people shouldn’t do anything of real value. So, take the day to watch TV, play video games, scroll through social media, and eat potato chips whilst being a potato yourself. No need to embark on self-care routines like journalling spa time, or cleaning to calm the nerves. That’s not what this day is about.

The important thing is to simply take a break to help your body and mind recuperate from your fast-paced day-to-day routine. Sitting on the couch for a day may be all you need to do just that.
